Roger Calvin Johnson

Roger Calvin Johnson, age 68, of Du Quoin, died at his home on Sunday, September 21, 2003 at 5:50 p.m.
Mr. Johnson was born in Marietta, Ohio on January 13, 1935, the son of Delbert P. and Elma A. (Hinton) Johnson.  He married Allabrantha Ollie King on December 22, 1957 in Newcomerstown, Ohio and she survives.  Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked at Southern Illinois Petroleum in Du Quoin.  He also worked at various coal mines in the region.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Roger was also known for his many quilts that he made and donated to charities for benefit raffles.
Survivors include his wife, Allabranthea Ollie Johnson; a son, Dana Johnson and wife Kim of Du Quoin; two daughters, Debbie Parks and husband Brian of Sparta and Barbara McConnell and husband Phillip of Ashley; a sister, Beulah McCain of Waterford, Ohio and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Luella and an infant.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Brother Bob Dickerson officiating.  Interment was in the Jordan Grove Cemetery near Baldwin.
Visitation was held at the Pyatt-Harrawood & Epplin Funeral Home in Du Quoin on Tuesday, September 23 from 6 until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
